Default Another P/S thread

Lately I've noticed that my power steering pump wines a lot as i barely turn the steering wheel. I only notice it when the car is at a full stop and not while in motion. Now, the pump is a rebuild unit that I picked up from my local autopart store, the fuild level is good, and I'm using auto tranny fluid...could it just be that I have a bad pump??

The belt is slipping because it takes a LOT more hydraulic pressure to move the tires when you aren't moving. Check to see if the belt is tight enough, and avoid turning the steering wheel when not moving, even a slow crawl helps a lot. And don't hold the wheel against the stop, you hit a full 800 psi, reducing the life of the pump, valve, cylinder, and hoses.

Ford pumps tend to whine a lot and a lot of rebuilders don't do a real good job in addressing it during the rebuild. It's important that you bleed the system after replacement. You bleed it by cycling the wheels left and right 20- 30 times (usually easier if the front end is off the ground) IMHO- I think you have another bad pump

What "Trans Fluid" did you use?

ATF--or Type F?

right, engine off bleeds the system, then engine on -cycle it a few more times gets the rest.
