Default Floor pan lip

From the centerline of the driveshaft tunnel how far down the sides of the tunnel do the tops of the pan rise?

Getting as much rust cut out, how farfrom the floor can I cut up towards the centerline until I run into trouble to where the pan lip won't rise that far?

I assume you are talking about the 1/2 or 1/4 pans? If so, it's not an even amount (or even straight) all the way. Easiest way to do it is to get the new pans, cut out the old pans in pieces, and then use the new pans to draw a line. Then make a cut at least 1" below that line. The pans will drop down as the old metal is removed. I have a 3/4" triangle in my floor pan because I didn't come down far enough for the first cut.

If you're looking to start cutting, you can go until just where the pan starts to transition to the tunnel safely. I can post a pic of my driver's side 1/4 replacement if you want to see the final result.

Please do,...my Rustang has no pans at all, just side scraps so I'm cutting high enought to get all the rust cut away, but am hoping to keep enough tunnel to not have to buy a full one piece pan
