door glass problem
had my drivers side door glass broken out 3 weeks ago. thats just the start of the problem. the glass installer put the front guide rail bracket on backwards and that made a mess of aligning the glass. messed with it forever until i found a picture online that showed the bracket was backwards. ok, still have a major problem, the front half of the glass isnt centered in the opening, it leans towards the inside metal of the door, in fact it touches. bought a new front door glass rail and installed it, still leans inwards. finally i decided to check the glass. i used a 2' aluminum level, well the glass they installed isnt any way near straight, compared to the passengers side. on the passengers side i can place the level at the upper part and from front to back it lays on it perfect, the glass they installed i can rock it up and down. i know these windows have a curve from top to bottom but not from back to front. finally the district manager is going to come out, he should of done that weeks ago. i figure it has to be the glass, seeing as the passengers side isnt curved from back to front and works perfect. what gets me is that i should be the one figuring this out, bracket installed backwards, to much curve in glass, it there job. i mean = this isnt rocket science.
I've got a 70 fastback. Will be interested in how this turns out - I put all new glass in my car and spent hrs trying to get driver side aligned to not avail. I had sold the old glass so I did not have it to try and see if it was a problem. Passenger side was fine. There is just so many adjustment points on these windows - it is a real pain
all i know right now is that it wont roll up right. and a straight edge on the passengers side stays against the glass for the full length. the drivers side has a diffident curve onward to it. guess ill find out today and post back.
well come yo find out the brackets were on the wrong end. the j channel brackets that bolt to the brackets that bolt to the glass. they were on wrong, the one they put in front needed to be in back. i was looking at them when i noticed they were just a little different in the gap area.
