Default 66 starter prob

So i have a starter issue that started with a backlash of the engine. The started housing cracked. SO i installed a new starter and then every other time i turned over the car it would grind. So i pulled it out and noticed the flywheel was chewed up

SO I installed a new flywheel ring gear. I get it all back together and it starts perfect the first few times then grinds again. if i just tap the key then try again it will start.

COuld this be something else that is causing it? could it be a solenoid. The one that is on there was replaced about a year ago. How about a week battery. It seemed to be a little low when i tried to start it a few hours ago.

Man this is pissing me offfffffffff

if its grinding, the teeth arent meshing completely.Either the bendix spring isnt kickin out the starter gear or the starter needs to be shimmed somehow.

i dont think it can be shimmed because the starter fits tigh in the inspection plate.

BTW i have a t5 with the t5 bell housing. It has been fine for 3 years, now the prob..ughhhh

Wrong starter maybe?

I don't think it would be solenoid, but maybe if you weren't getting clean power to the starter it won't kick out all the way?! Take a meter to the starter while someone cranks it. Disconnect the coil so the motor won't start on ya.
