Default 65 Conv- Over Drive Tranny ?

Next step on my car will most likely be Disk brakes on the front...

After that, I might look into a Overdrive tranny... Get better Highway fuel economy...

What is the most cost effective way to put a Overdrive in 65 Conv with a C4. Which i recently rebuilt..... that was probably not the best idea...

Not sure if 65s have a smaller trans tunnel but, T5 seems to be a popular option, if you can find one out of a fox body then you just need a clutch, pedal assembly, and crossmember. You might need to shorten the DS.
Or you can go AOD if you prefer automatic.

For auto, use an AOD. For manual, use a T5. Both can be bolted in to your car. Conversion parts are well supported.

I put a 4R70W into my 66, you'll need a Bauman controller with this trans.

If I go the AOD route... Beside the tranny... what is the cost of everything else?

Well besides the tranny your going to need a new crossmember, a shifter, and a remote transmission oil cooler. So figure on around 400 bucks not including the transmission. Prices will ofcourse vary. I myself try to find used parts if possible. I found a used B&M Ratchet shifter for 50 bucks.

You do NOT need a shifter to install an AOD. The stock shifter works perfectly when the trans is set up properly.

I was assuming he would want something with a good reverse lockout setup. But It would depend on what he is doing with his car. For a driver I suppose it wouldn't be necessary. I have an aod in my 65 vert and love it. I would recommend it. The swap is not hard, I was even able to reuse the stock driveshaft with just some shortening of the slip yoke. If you do need to shorten the yoke make sure your cut is straight and that you dont leave any burs on the end to tear your seal.

google Mustang AOD swap....there is tons of info out there on how to do this. Which AOD to look for, all of the items you need to keep if you source from a donor car, etc.
