Question Need help - removing spring shackle

I'm changing the rear leaf springs in my 1971 Mach 1. I am struggling to remove the upper bushing for the spring shackles, the one in the frame. I have seen advice on line to use a torch and burn it out, but the fuel tank is only inches away so I do not want to do that for obvious reasons.

Has anyone done this before? How do you get the old bushings out?

Thanks!

I've removed both sides of the "mushroom", but whats left will not budge. Did you drop your fuel tank so you could get a hammer or other tool in there? I think that may be part of my problem - I only have about three or four inches on either side to work with.

Got 'em out tonight. Damn they were ornery! I was able to eventually hammer a pry bar into them, then lever them out.
