Default Alternative t5?

There's a lot of info out there about taking a 5 speed out of an 85-93 v8 mustang and putting it in a first gen mustang. I have a 67 289 that i will eventually convert to stick and I thought about a tranny from a truck.

One of my friends has a late 80's f150 5.0L that is stick and doesn't have a granny gear.

Would one of these trannys fit my mustang, granted I find one without a granny gear? Would it be worth my time and does it need to be a tranny from a v8 car?

thanks

you probably could get a truck tranny in there , but not worth it! a t-5 will fit with no tunnel mods, not to mention the aftermarket for cross members etc caters to t-5's and tremecs. last but not least shifter location may become a problem. I know when I installed my T-5Z box in my 67 the shifter poped up right in the same hole my A/T shifter was in. T-5's are cheap, atleast where I'm at. I seem them all day long in "working" condition for $250-$350. buy the T-5 and save the headache. using a truck tranny could probably be done but to me Time is money!
