Default Door seal goop

How do you guys get the tar stuff of the door? I have new moisture seals I want to put on with fresh adhesive. OR should I just put a thin coat on top of the existing?

The "goop" IS the adhesive for installing the moisture barriers. The brown paper barriers are stuck to the door with the black rubberized side toward the door. The "goop" is strip caulk.

Yes I realize that. I want to put fresh "goop" on with the new plastic barriers.
Are you saying that the original will still have sufficient seal power still?
