My steering goes insane!!! help!
a couple of days ago i rebuilt the power assisted steering control valve on my 67 mustang coupe 289, i drained the power steering fluid when i took it out and when i reinstalled it i filled it back up, but when i started it this morning i pulled out of the garage and the steering went insane and turned to the right as far as it could by itself, i couldnt even turn the wheel back until i turned the car off. it now does this everytime i start it. i am seriously confused and dont know whats wrong.
any suggestions at all?

So you rebuilt valve by yuorself? Did you read instructions and did you notice that part where is adjusting instructions? I think that you just put all new parts there and that´s it. You should o following steps:
1. lift front end of the car up and use good stands not just jack.
2. remove front tires. You can adjusting without remowing tires, but you get better result with remowing tires.
3. open controlvalve end cap and try to find point where adjusting nut is in center.
4. start your car and see what happens
*if steering turns right you have turn adjusing nut one way
*if steering turns left you have to turn adjusting nut other way
5. everytime you turn adjusting nut rev up engine and you see will steering stay centerd
6. when steering stays centered eaven when you rev up engine you have done adjusting right and your steering works fine.

i tried adjusting the nut and turned the car on, when i did the steering went even more crazy and went left right left right and then sprayed fluid everywhere, so i took it off and found that one of the hose ports leading into the valve was destroyed, i cant rebuild it so i guess im either going to buy a new control valve or just buy a power steering box for it and go that direction. Thanks for the help though, helped me find my problem.
