I have a 65 Mustang Coupe, 302 engine. I have it prettty much as stock, but i do have a shelby lowering in front for better cornering.

I'm running big tyres at 17" 225/45. Still the car feels very bad on the road. The biggest problem is at higher speed like 40, 50 mph and higher, because i just don't "feel" it. Steering wheel is very loose and i just don't have any confidence in the car.

What can i do so the steering would be more accurate, less loose at higher speeds?

it wasnt a original 6 cylinder car was it? I bought a 65 that was 6cylinder that someone dropped 302 into and did not change any of the steering componets also had granada spindles on it , drove like crap until I replaced everything hub to hub with original v-8 componets.

In addition to the revealing your alignment specs, how far did you drop it as there is more than one drop spec. What shape is your steering linkage and box in?

 

Have you changed the offset or diameter with those big wheels and wide tires? I have found that small variations in any of those variables can lead to problems with a car wanting to run straight down the road.

You may want to have your ball joints checked. My 72 was all over the road until we discovered all 4 ball joints were loose. Because the car had been lowered, I had to take it back for alignment 3 times because the stock settings didn't work well.

I would recommend finding someone who works on classic mustangs to help get it dialed in.
