Default Starter Still ingaging

Hello All,
I recently was sucesful in installing a HEI ingnition sytem in my 68 mustang.
However, after starting the engine for the second time, the started stayed ingaged while the engine was running. An awful noise I may add. And then I turn the key off, and it still ingauges. And then in less then ten seconds, the battery is completly dead. Any idea ofwhat it could be?
I did pull 12V power from a black wire on the keyed ignition, could that have something to do with it?

Thanks,
Mike

i would think that you tying into a keyed lead on the ignition would not really affect it, but is it possible that you may have made a faulty connection and crossed it or arced it with another terminal.

Or, you solenoid could be bad!

I would start with the connection on the ign switch though. since it started once you made that change.

There is one wire to the starter relay "S" terminal - pull that off and see if the starter disengages. If it does, you have a miswire causing the relay to remain engaged and you need to look into where you tied your wiring in.

If it doesn't stop, the relay is most likely bad. Give it a wop with a hammer and see if the starter stops. Either way a new relay is in order.
