Default Speedometer Problems

Hi all,

I'm almost finished with my project of five years and just ran into another problem I can't solve myself.

My speedometer has stopped working.

I tried uninstalling the speedometer cable from the back of the gauges. When I did, the square inner metal cable was easily spun and could be pulled out without a problem. I adjusted it and pushed the cable in, and the cable would not spin. I thought this fixed it and reinstalled. I drove the car and the speedo seemed to work.

I went to the store and the speedo worked the whole way. When I drove back home, the speedo no longer worked.

Do I just need to buy a new speedo cable or is this fixed some other way?

Thanks.

You may want to check the trans gear just to make sure it's ok and mounted correctly on the end of the speedo cable.

If the shaft is turning and there is no indication, the speedo head is defective (since you've stated that you've checked the gears installation). If the shaft is not turning - you''ll have to figure out why. Recall it's all one piece and unless it's broken, it should be turning.

I ended up replacing the speedo cable and it all appears to be working well. Also, the speedo is more stable. It was wobbly before.
