Default DIN Radio Mounting?

One of the last things I need to do in my car is figure out how to mount my DIN radio.

The dash was already cut when I bought the car and I don't want to weld in a repair plate, but the radio was not mounted so it was loose.

Anyone mounted one successfully? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

The original radio mount was ripped in two and I have not seen reproductions when I looked.

If its a 64-66 you can mount a din in the dash but most use a radio delete panel and get a under dash din mount. If its a 67-73 they sell a din size radio bezel for it.

Oh yes, sorry. It is a 66. I've seen the delete plate and that's a last resort for me. I'd prefer to just mount it without adding the additional panel and under dash unit.

Thanks.

Not sure of the problem if the dash is already cut. Do you need a mounting bracket?
You can get universal brackets at a place that installs car audio equip.
Maybe a pict would help us understand better.

yes, my problem is mounting. i'll look into what yo suggested. the mounting bracket from the original is gone, besides that the back of the radio dosent have a place I can mount, I need to mount from the side. Also, not sure how to keep the front stable to eliminate forward motion.

I'll try and post pics tomorrow.

You need the radio "din sleeve" that mounts to the dash, then the radio slides into that and is secured.

The back side of your ashtray has a place you can attach a bracket. May have to fabricate one to go between the ashtray and the stud on the back of the radio once it is slid into place. I ended up welding up a rectangle out of 1/8" x 1/2" wide steel strips and hard mounting that about 1" back behind the dash to support the front of the radio. the din tray slides through the dash, it pinned to the face by the little tabs, then supported by the brace. the back has a standoff bracket that attaches the radio to the ashtray.

James knows what I'm talking about! Thanks man. I'll try the ashtray tomorrow. Appreciate everyone's input. Haven't had time to work on this the past couple days. Will try and update soon. Thanks again. Anyone elses suggestions are welcome.

I ended up mounting it using a corner bracket like this:

I then cut a hole into the ash tray top and mounted the bracket onto that with a nut and bolt. It appears to be very sturdy. The only other problem is because of the bolt I had to cut the ash tray itself so it would close properly, but you would only know this if you removed the whole tray to see it. I'm happy with the result. Thanks.

Sorry for the double post. I just want to leave and ending for anyone else who searches for something like this.
