Unless your an ace mechanic and have a shop like the guys on TV....don't bother. It will be an endless headache and never be right. Sell the rusted FB and sell the couple...save a couple more bucks and do it right.

Anybody out there, ever cut the top off a fastback and put it on a coupe? If so how difficult was it?
First you need allmost all rear parts from your fb, besauce rear fender lines are different. And if your fb is rusted you have to buy new ones. Then roof line is different so where to cut? Maybe near windshield? Welding a new top in correct place is difficult to do. When coversion is done and if you can do it by yourself maybe price is not very very high, but still you have home made thing in your hands. If you ever try to sell that thing it will be difficult. If you have to use profesional help to do coversion forget it. You will get most expensive Mustang.

As all others has been said: Sell those cars and buy real fastback.

Yeah, where would you start? I guess you would have to buy the tools first. Torch, welder, heavy duty grinding wheel ...on, and on. By the time you got it finished you would have more into the car than it would ever be worth.

I agree with all others here. No reason to do this when you could sell both of yours and buy a decent fastback to start with. Can't imagine why anynone would uundertake this project. Just too much work with no payout.

...you would have to cut the cars in half and then put them together.
It's not as simple as just cutting the top off.
Actually, it kinda is. No "cutting the cars in half" necessary. (Although it's certainly not the kind of project I'd take on myself!)

Ne either Danny. Man, that looks like a lot of work, and an expensive project. Good luck with it though, and let us know how it turns out. We need pics as the project matures, so keep that digital handy.
