Default Belt / pulley challenge

I have a 1965 Mustang with a 302 engine. Im having bit of belt/pulley problem when trying to install a power steering pump.

Basically my question is:
Can a serpentine belt pull the alternator over the water pump pulley or is it best to route it from both the water pump AND crank?

Said in another way, can I run the alternator as this:
water pump - alternator

or is this routing required:
crank - water pump - alternator

The reason I ask is to find out if I need a dual pulley for both the crank and the water pump or if a dual pulley for the water pump only will suffice.

I cant follow without pics but I wanted to chime in and remind you that a serpentine setup can run your water pump backwards, so if you use a 5.0 setup be sure to use a 5.0 water pump.
