4 bbl for 289 C Code
Hi,
Got a '66 289 C Code and intending to fit an Edelbrock Performer manifold and a set of Tri-y headers. What size 4 barrel carby would be suitable - just chasing a modest increase in horsepower.
Thanks,

Thanks,
http://www.holley.com/applications/C...bSelection.asp this will tell you what size the biggest problem people make is to put to big of carb on
I have that motor with a mid sized cam, tri-Y headers and a T5 and I used a stock autolite 4100 and it absolutely nailed it.
Those carbs are getting hard to find and expensive when you do get one, but the annular venturies is what made them work so and feel so crisp, the top comes off for easy tuning (even with the car running)...and that carb design has been the basis of Edelbrocks 1400 series for a while now. I think the 500 CFM Edelbrock 1403 would work really well on that size motor, with the 1406 being a bit large for that displacement.

Here it is at Summit Racing.

500 cfm should do. I bought edelbrock because of the no-spill disassembly, but some work better than others. See what floats up on this thread as well as ask around at local car shows and if they'll tell you a local engine shop.
