Rough idle when in gear (automatic), etc

hi,
yes thats a lot of play but if you spray flammable brake cleaner at it gently using the long nozzle i mentioned and your rpm does not increase it is not the source of your prob guaranteed.
that is a 70 carb.

Here's the latest:
The car is running now, but only with the chock engaged. Even after he motor is nice and warm, I can't back the choke off or the engine dies. Because of that, the idle is quite high (maybe 2K RPM), and I can't lower it with the idle screw.
The timing is correct, at 10 degrees. The fuel mix is where it was before the engine suddenly started having this problem, and changing the fuel mix screw doesn't seem to affect the motor at all, until I get it screwed in, within about two rotations from its lean limit.
I took the carb apart again, and nothing seems amiss.

hi,
ok, if you sprayed clraner at the loose throttle and you have no air leaks then your idle circuit is likely plugged up.
Take flammable brake cleaner or carb cleaner with the long nozzle.
remove the fuel mix screw.
spray in screw hole for 5 seconds.
find the tiny holes in the carb throat and push the nozzle against them and spray for 2 - 3 seconds.
try eng again.
if it still stalls check the float level height and power valve for debris.
