If you plan to keep the motor stock, 300hp, 350hp, an 8" track-loc would be fine, and less costly. You can hand (ship) your center section to a gear specialist and $600 american and they will put in a trac-loc and any gear ratio you want. New stronger axles and spider gears will still keep you under $1000. A 9" trac-loc is better for bigger horsepower, 400 hp+, but a full 9" will require a new complete rear end, cost is $2000 for a complete 9" trac-loc and brakes. Also know, a 9" rear end is allot heavier than an 8" rear end. There are advantages to a 9" rear end, but there are also advantages to a well built 8" rear end.
I found a guy who sold this one...
complete original 9"posi 3.00-1 with snubber new brakes 10"x 2" powder coated backing plates and drums, brake cylinders. fits 67 - 70 mustang but correct for 68 - 70. gt 350, gt 500, boss. cleaned and painted ready to install ,gears are perfect , posi is tight! For 1 000$
You think its a good deal or you think its better to rebuilt my original 8 inch with a track-lock ?!

It's a good price, but it is USED. Plan on needing to rebuild the carrier (trac-loc), in fact it might be a good idea while its out of the car anyway. $75 for the rebuild kit, and pay a knowledgable friend a case of beer (bordeaux in france) to rebuild it.
Drum to drum ready to bolt in, that isn't a bad price.
I just bought an 8" 3.25 trac-loc center section to replace the factory peg leg in the fastback for a lot less though.
