Heat or ground? (starting issue)
Hi - 67 fastback with a new alternator, MSD ignition, relatively new battery.
When cold - starts no problem.
Drive for 20 minutes, park, then try to start and the engine barely turns over, won't spark to start. If I wait a few minutes it will turn over a few more times but still no spark. 13V at the battery when in this situation. If I boost the battery, even with a portable 1500 AMP battery booster, it will start.
Ideas?
Starter or solenoid heat soak?
Bad ground? (coil, ignition, ? )
thanks.

Its been a while. Had issues with the power, had a lag on throttle so moved up to msd ignition. Sometime after that, not right away, started having the issue.
I run a single wire alternator. The voltage was low so just swapped it with new. That didn't fix the situation so I know its not the charging system. Has to be either starter or the battery or a ground issue, my guess. I could be wrong though, thats why I thought I would ask here.

what starter are you using? is it a mini starter for a t5 trans or is it the big original one?
also put a volt meter on the battery and crank it over when hot have someone watch and see what the voltage sag looks like when the starter is attempting to engage.
What is your current timing set to initial?

+1..........when the battery voltage drops below 9.5 volts during starting, the battery is going south.
