Default Sputtering

I have a 1969 Mustang with a fuel injected V8 out of a 1993 mustang. My problem is that occasionally, while driving or just sitting in traffic, the car will start sputtering like its not getting any fuel. Some times I can rev the engine and work through it and get full power, other times I have just enough power to pull off the road. Once I shut the engine off and start it back up, the problem is gone and it runs fine. It may start sputtering again right away or it may be two months before it does it again. It seems to go in spurts; it may do it several times over the course of a few days then nothing for weeks.
I have taken it to several shops and they always say its the fuel pump, so that has been replaced twice. The tank is new as well as the fuel line. I took it to an electrical shop thinking its a short or computer issue, but since this problem is intermittent, it didn't act up while hooked up to the computer. To restate, restarting the engine fixes the problem.

I know nothing about cars so if you could give me some suggestions that I can take to my mechanic, I would appreciate it.

Yes, I believe it does have a TFI.

How old is the TFI module? They're a problem spot on the years Ford used them. Also, see if you can pull sensor data from all the sensors, you could have something way out somewhere.
