I have a 289, transmission and rear end all out of a 66 Mustang, or so I was told. Engine and transmission seem to be correct but the rear end, not so much. I can't find anything that actually tells me it is from a '66 Mustang, what size it is and so on. The only two things I know because I haven't pulled it apart yet (one drum is stuck due to rust) is that the axle has the two indentations like a 9" and it's case bolt pattern is round with 10 bolts. There is no ID tag on it, just one that says 3.22. I want to take it in to be rebuilt if needed, new seals and gaskets, gears checked, I can do the brakes myself but again, not knowing what it is makes it hard to call around. I have included a couple of pics I took last night, any help is greatly appreciated.

What does the back side look like?

 

wow, that is but ugly. looks like a 50's to early 60's 9". as requested, need rear photo.

measure the width. it is most likely 1" wider than a mustang

 

It looks like this, exactly, no dimples, no hump, just round. Filler hole is on the bottom

HA! It IS in bad shape, I want to love it though despite its flaws. I just put a picture of what it looks like, I can get another when I get home.

Anyone know if I get the case out, will there be any markings that would help identify it, since I the metal tag is missing

 

IT WILL HAVE THE GEAR RATIO STAMPED ON THE CASE. THERE IS A DATE CAST INTO THE OUTSIDE OF THE PUMPKIN AND MAYBE A PART NUMBER.

 

If it is not a really early Ford, it is not Ford at all. Keep looking for a correct 1965-66 rear axle assembly.
