Hey. I have a 65 mustang with a 260 ci and C4. the car sat more often than not for 2 years, started it up once a month or so. long story short my car wont engage in reverse. forward gears work fine just no reverse one day. it started first by barely moving then just didnt work one day. now the reverse lights dont work either, dont know if its related. also when i put the selector in reverse the tranny makes a squeel noise but the car never feels like its shifting. i really dont know much about transmissions so any help is much appreciated. thanks

 

Have you checked the fluid level?

 

Its good. May be a bit overfull

 

Also i put it on jack stands and tried reverse. It will kind of work in reverse. Wheels start to spin then they stop. If i give it gas they will move if i give them a slight roll.

 

Have you checked the low /reverse band for proper torque? It is adjusted externally.

 

Yes i have adjusted that but it didnt make a difference. I have it on jack stands right now and if i put it in reverse the wheels spin but i can stop them with my foot easy

 

Any ideas?
