Default "V"289 Mustang Emblem Spec?

I had my 1965 Mustang repainted and the guy who did it filled in and painted over the post holes in my fender(s) for the 289 emblem. Can someone get me close as to where they should be - how far down from the top of the fender and how far back from the headlight bracket? Also, was there one in each fender? It's been several years but I seem to remember there being an emblem in only one fender but that may have been done (or undone) by the previous owner. Thanks for any help.

I couldn't say for sure, but there was most likely one on each fender...

As for placement, I would say get to the back side (remove the fender if necessary), and find where he filled in the holes, and drill them out from the back side...

i agree to take off the fenders and check to see where he filled the holes (if he welded paltes behind it or used bondo) hopefully ihe used bondo so you can drill it out....please drill it out, dont punch it, it will chip the paint.... i know from experience... lol. as for the 289 emblems, yes both sides recieved them, and there is "little difference" in 64 and 65 but placement was the same.

You may not even have to take the fender off. I have a drill bit head that makes a 90 degree turn so is only about 4 inches long. See if you can locate one of those.
You see "about" where it goes on my 65. On edit: I forgot the wheel well is in the way.....trash that idea.

I read an article once about classic emblem placement. It basically said that concourse gurus dont really care that much as long as the emblems are in the same general area. Theyve found original mustangs with emblems all over the place. The San Jose factory was the worst at emblem placment, as some would be as much as several inches off.

But yeah, stick a mirror and a light behind the fender to see. Take the fender off to make things easier.
