Default Alternator wiring

Good afternoon,

Am very new to the mustang world, having just bought a 66 289 v8 am now starting to create a plan and start working on it. Hopefully my questions are not too stupid!

I need replace the wiring harness from the alternator, and the wiring then seems to feed down into the main wiring loom at the front of the car. instead of connecting to the headlight to frame harness via connector, it seems to have been connected another way (see pics), shouldn't these two harnesses be connected via a nice clean connector?

Is it recommended I cut and add connectors here? or would it be worth my while replacing both harnesses whilst I am at it?

Am interested in your views please,
does that make sense??

Thanks for any help in advance, I am sure my questions will get less vague as time goes on!

That does yes thank you, so the default/typical set up would be with a connector block, asa pose to mine which looks like a repair/soldered together or something

So perhaps sensible to get the second harness new and replace so it is as should be?
