Default 66 Charging system tests??

I now this has probably been discussed before, but my search did not yield anything.

Anyone know of a good YouTube video or ?? that explains testing of the charging system for a 1966 Ford, a Galaxie in my case. New Alternator and Voltage Regulator, still no charge at battery. HEI distributor. I’m not the swiftest when it comes to electrical. Scans of a Chilton’s book??

I am willing to pay someone to come by if they are good at this electrical diagnosis, I’m in Fairfax VA.

All help appreciated.

How do you know there is no charge at battery? What test method did you use?

simple volt meter at battery posts...

I thought my problem might be the green/red wire that supplies voltage from ignition switch thru ALT light. But obviously not, since that fried the VR with full 12 volts.

I hate electrical stuff.....

its pretty easy peasy.....according to the diagram :/

Its really as simple as checking each end of the wire (after you know the alternator and reg are good) For example does wire F on V regulator connect to "Field" on alternator? If Yes THEN...is wire okay??? Use continuity test. Most voltage meters have a beep setting if current will pass through the tested wire the meter will beep...For example if you touch the test leads together the meter should beep. Now just put one test lead on one end of wire and then on the other end (Vreg side and Alt Side for F wire example) does the meter beep...if yes wire probably good.

I would follow diagram and verify colors match at Vreg and Alt first
Then Check GND (ground) from ALT to ground
Then Check GND on V reg. (I dont know but the Vreg likley uses a case ground which means the case or body of the Vreg makes contact with the bolt that secures it to the frame and is then grounded. This mean the Vreg must be bolted down before it will work)
on diagram Ground is indicated by the hashed triangle symbol

Thnx for info G'man. My schematic/system is slightly different, but providing 5 volts to the I terminal of the VR , all works good now. 14.2...nice!!

can you post the schematic you have?
I just found this on google...It seems odd to me that stator is not used...
this diagram also ignores the I terminal on VR.
Link said for use with 66 galaxie...I wouldnt know.

From a 1968 shop manual, which seems to match my 66 XL.
