Default Power steering affects alternator charge

Hi,

first time poster here. I am struggling with a very weird problem. A classic car shop installed a Borgeson Power Steering in my 289. After a few weeks, I noticed that I had charging issues. Since it was still the original alternator I upgraded it to a PowerMaster 100A. Alternator and power steering are on a double pulley on crankshaft and water pump. I had to pull off the power steering belt to put on the alternator belt. Installed the alternator, tested the alternator with a multimeter. 14.5V. When I put the power steering belt back on, the output of the alternator stopped. I removed the belt, tested again 14.5. Drives me crazy. I kept the power steering belt off since I value charging over power steering but I have no idea why this happens. I noticed that the pulley groove on the camshaft for the power steering is different (larger) than the one for the alternator. Not sure this is the cause or what is going on.

Ideas are welcome !!

V-belt, right? That wide groove is allowing slippage, causing alternator output to DROP. Replace/fix pulley. V-belts are problematic, and few really understand them. Ask if you want to know more.
