Harmonic Balancer Problem
Morning Gang,
Yesterday I was doing some detailing and painting on the engine befoer I drop her into the car next weekend and desided to pull off the timing cover so I could install the new chrome dip stick tube. I got out my trusty 3 point puller and took off the Harmonic balancer. Much to my surprise it came off in 2 parts. A round metal ring around the a smaller ring with some type of rubber between them. After I got the smaller one off I I tried to put it back together. It appears they will have to be pressed on. The rubber ring is very brittle so I thought I would replace the harmonic balancer with a new one. So here is the question. I have seen sever after market types, fluid, stock etc. What do you guys recommended? Do you have a certain brand you like best. ALso I have noticed two different weights i.e 28 , 28.4, 50 oz both are offering a 3 and 4 bolt styles. What is the right one. I am building a 302 for my 66.
I am not concerned in being Ford original on this engine. I have the original 289 that I will build out later to meet that statndard.
Bring on the suggestions.
Thanks for your help,
Gary

The little metal sleeve and rubber stuff, is something you can buy and put back on it. They are for to keep it from leaking oil. I got mine from Advance Auto Parts for $12. Just replace that again. It's a metal sleeve, and some gooey stuff, that holds on the metal sleeve. I didn't put on the goo, when i did mine, and i think it came off and damaged my seal, Anyhow, it's leaking oil from it.[:@]
