Default Track Appearances?

How many of you guys have ever taken your stock, or nearly stock classics to the track

i know for sure that many of us arent willing to risk something as stupid as a 1/4 mile time for our 20k-70+K dollar cars, but i was just wondering who has, and what they ran.

My dads 72 Mach 1 would be fun to do, but i dont imagine it would do very well, (and lord help the driver if it were wrecked at 80mph+)

mine certainly isn't worth 20-70 grand, but i'd like to see what it can do...

it is definitely not a race car but i'm going to try it on an 1/8th mile track at qualcomm stadium soon...

i have a couple friends who have been wanting to race me for a while...one has a 1973 240Z and the other is a 1974 plymouth duster

i think I can take them...none of us has seriously raced before and mine runs much better. I'll post how it went after the race.

My old classic is certainly not worth that much money, but I would never even think of taking it to the track. It's not set up to be dragged. Sure, I get on it occasionally just to make sure she understands she is a Mustang and not a weenie, but to drag it is taking a bucket of old parts and putting them under stress. The only thing that can come out it is disaster to a 40 year old car.

I am...I consider it low risk...especially if you are running against another car with similar power. Track surfaces are very stick, go on a nice day, you don't need to launch at 3k to have fun.

Yeah, but Nick, your's is certainly not stock. You probably don't have too many part on your car that are original 40 year old parts. Your's has been built to drag.

i took my 67 to the track for all Ford day at Bandimere Speedway last year and they let you run our cars on the track. It was a good time because there was a car show, plus drag racing, plus beer... any way i ran mine, and it ran a 16.25 @ 91mph, and the second run it was hotter out and i ran a decent 15.79 @98 mph. I wasnt the least woried about my car wrecking to tell you the truth, i know its apprasied at around 15 grand, but thats what my car was meant to do, be driven and driven hard at that

i sure hope it was in that order...

yea, i figured most people would never take the chance of an accident to their cars..

i dont know if i had the chance to run my dads car if i would, (it would be a tough decision cause that car just doesnt seem as 'secure' as my new one)

and the money figure was just an example, ours isnt worth 10K[]

Drag racing is a minimal risk for a mildly modded car.

I run mine: 14.138 in the 1/4.

Had it appraised before driving it to Florida earlier this year... Let's just say I was shocked! last time I even priced a '68 fastback was back in 90 when I bought it

Anyways... what use is having the car if you can't have some fun with it?

BTW Dodgestang... what area of the country are you in?

C!

Many of the classic guys have modded their rides to take the pressure for drag racing, and they are successful at it. They are designed with new mods to do just that. But to take a plain jane classic that has not been upgraded and race it is asking for break down trouble. I would think my old 289 might make it into the low 18's, but why bother? What the hell does that prove. Nada........

my 67 289 was origionaly bought to drag with. When i got it from my dad's coworker it already had traction bars, lift bars, and dual exhaust in it. i bet i could have some fun and get a pretty good time at the strip. i love drag racing (thats why i bought forza motorsports for xbox !!)
i figure if something breaks its replaceable without much trouble really. I'd like a new engine anyway...
