Default borken door lock assembly

[:@]ive got a 66 mustang coupe its in rad shape except the fact that now my door will not close. The problem lies somewere in the locking assembly the door is locked and wont unlock and the latch part is stuck open if ne1 knows if its worth fixing myself and if so help is needed and if its just a matter of buying a new assembly

Well, the first thing to do is to get the door open. Then, get a new lock assembly and replace the old one. That may sound a bit simplistic, but it really is no big deal to replace the lock assembly. The only problem is that you will have one odd key. If it were mine, I would replace both door lock assemblies with matching keys. That way, you will be done with that project, and not have to visit it again with the other door in the future.

i don't think i need the new key lock part just the latch part thats attached to the inside(by inside i mean the part that holds the strike plate). If uve seen on and im guessing u have, theres a little sprocket with teeth on it that is supposed to catch that piece that is hit down by the inside doorhandle opening part, but for some reason that little piece wont spring up so those 2 things that close around the cylinder and keep the door closed wont lock they just role off. Its the only way i can explain it lol srry

If I understand correctly it sounds like they are stuck in the "door closed position" not allowing the door pin to enter. Lubricate it well and try to (pry) open them up (push door button at same time)

The WD-40 will get it loose, but will not lubricate it. Not for very long anyhow. You need to get some grease in there. You can get lithium grease with the little red spray nozzle that you can use to get in there.

Yes, grease is your buddy when it comes to door mechanisms.
