Default Shifting RPM?

For those of you with automatic transmissions, and a tach, under wide open throttle, wut rpm does your car shift gears at? Mine is shifting right aroung 5000, and I was thinking that was a little low.

That sounds about right

If you want more shift rpm lock it into a gear then shift it out yourself but as for total automatic shifting thats about what you should expect

Yeah, I keep hearing these cars red line at 5000-5300 RPMS. I dont know, because, that seems low to me.( the red line, not your shift point.)

its about right, although if u manual shift it i have found that 5900 to 6100 shifts the car quite nicely, and seems to get u ahead a bit more

You can make adjustments to the governor to tailor shift timing. Its alot easier with GM transmissions, but possible with Ford. The C4, FMX, and C6 will all hold first gear untill you move the shifter. Line pressure, vacuum modulator, and the governor are what set the shift rpm. The modulator has the smallest effect on shifting and the governor the most.

I need to do some research anyway, so I will check into what I can do to modify a C4 and FMX transmission. If I find anything good, I will post it up.

FWIW I have seen 289's turning 8000 rpm with factory rods, balanced and with light pistons. The part keeping you back is the valvetrain. Floating the valves is a bad thing.

yeah, I knew it had something to do with the valves. On my C4 transmission, it shifts out of 1st by itself, even when it's in low, but thats when it's really turning those RPMs.
