They are just smaller or different sized pullies. What that does is, gives back some of the power they rob from the engine, but like i said, it can affect water pump and alternator performance.

...I have a stock 289 with a Holly 600...I would like to up the horse power and torque.
What are some things I can do on the upper end to give it some more HP and that snappy throttle response????
You've got too much carb, plain and simple. Move down to a 500 cfm Edelbrock. Problem will most likely be solved right out of the box.

Yup, its on the way. The Edelbrock 500 should be here Thursday.. I'll give you guys an update after I install it this weekend. I'm hoping it solves the throttle responce too.

headers i would go with 1 5/8 tubes i prefer hooker but have no specific on wich would be better.exhaust i would at least do a h-pipe set up with 2" exhaust witha set of good mufflers flow master ,magna flow or along that lines.for your carb if you feel its not enough after you have done this go to a 600 and play with the jetting till you get the results you want. Remember to have fun wi'll your doing it thats what is all about.driving the car is only half the hobby brother.
