Default Rusted Out Floor

hey everybody, im taking out the floor in my 66 coupe and i have the full floor pan but i noticed that the part of the floor that goes from the rear seat into the trunk is rusted and i want to replace it obviously, ive looked around for this piece and the only place ive found it is on mustangsunlimited.com, does anybody else know where i could find something to replace this rusted metal?. ive attached a photo so you know what im talking about. thanks

welcome to our site,
if the rest of the piece is not as badly rusted as that section you could cut out that section and patch it with sheet metal, you wontsee it under the backseat anyways. if it were my car i would want to remove it and clean up/replace the rear frame rails and rear torque boxes while your at it. sure that piece from mustangs unlimited is expensive but if you dont get out all the rust it will just spread to your new floor in time.
good luck,
carl

thanks for posting, the frame rails and torque boxes are actually in really good condition. in regards to patching it with sheet metal, how would you shape it? just use a hammer and shape it to the contours?

yes thats all i would do. i for one, dont have all that many sheet metal tools and you can definately find some inventive ways to shape the metal. i usually use a good sized mallet and just about anything i can find to give me the shape im looking for. if the full floor pan has the extensions that go under the rear seat then you wont have all that much to fab yourself.

for that curve, you should be able to get away with beating on the metal with dolleys until it forms. but it was a different story for when i had to replace the lip section on my right wheel well. if you have a sharp 90 degree angle to concur, consider banging a sheet of metal into the form of angle iron:

and cutting the entire length of one side to resemble teeth marks

this will allow superb flexability to fit the area you need.

By any chance or you going to be replacing the truck floor in your Stang also? If you are, they make a one piece floor pan that has that section your looking for, it should work for you! But its not cheap.
