Mach 1 vin
Alright heres the vin number on my mach one. i got it off the drivers side dash. f2F05F206I45f can anyone decode that for me. The car is kinda weird because it is my understanding that mach 1s had tachometers but this one doesnt. Another thing is that the front grill that i got with the car (not on the car) has the running horse like on the 60's model cars and the turn signals (i guess there turn signals) are verticle instead of horizontal. What do yall think?

This info from "Catalog of Mustang ID numbers 64 1/2 to 93"
F2=1972
F=Dearborn Michigan
05=Sports roof (Mach1) So according to your VIN it's an actual "Mach 1"
F=302 V8 2V
The plate on the drivers door under "BODY" should say 63R as well. If you have that plate information I can give you the information from this book. My sister is so cool, she got me this book for Christmas.
Sorry I don't know much else about the car though.

72 Mach 1 with a 302 2 barrel. The vertical grille lights are turn signals found in 73 cars most likely. See if they compare to the photo below. Yours should have sport lenses mounted horizontally in the grille and turn signals in the openings of the valance. The tach deal sounds peculiar. I'll bet that someone has swapped out the instrument cluster at some time since the tachometer was part of the Mach 1 package. I don't know if you could order a mach 1 with tach delete but I doubt that anyone would have anyway. Hope this helps, Dean

With respect to 71-73 parts interchanging... yes and no. The front bumpers are different 71-72-73. The 71's used a chrome, the 72's used a mix of chrome and enduraflex "rubber" while the 73 used a different style enduraflex bumper unique to the 73's. The headlight buckets are different with 71-2 being different than the 73. The headlight doors are unique to the 73. The 71-2 fenders and fender extensions are also different from the 73. The grille and turn signal configuration is unique to the 73. The doors and roof are the same 71-73 . The rear quarters are unique to the 73 with a different concave bumper indentation and bolt holes than the 71-2. The filler panel between the rear bumper and the body is an inch longer on the 73. The end trim pieces between the rear bumper and body are also an inch longer on the 73's. The tail lights on the 73 has no black out treatment while the 71-2 does. So while there are many similarities... they are very different. Dean
yea, i went and checked myself, the 72 coupe and convertable had the running pony and the mach and the sprint had the tribar pony. So i bet the previous owner put a coupe/convert. grille on the mach 1 of yours.
