need blinker fluid!
We're attempting to get the turn signals to operate in our 66 coupe. We replaced the silver canister looking relay under the driver dash, and that did not fix the problem. Where else is there a relay or another place to look for? (the more detailed the better) Thank you!
first thing i would do is check all the bulbs to make sure they are being grounded to there housings, ie: rear tailights etc. If one is not making contact, it wont continue the circuit, and therfore wont give you turn signals. Check them all and let us know
After checking all the connections, take the switch itself out and inspect it for wear. If worn, or has broken soldering connections, replace it with a new switch. And while you have it out, use a multi-meter to check for 12 volts coming in. We also have some wiring diagrams in the FAQ section for you to use to trace down the problem.
Sounds like you do need a new switch. That's what happened with my '68. Hit the turn signal and the brake lights went out. A new switch fixed the problem. The switch is in the steering column underneath the steering wheel. Pretty easy fix. Good Luck.
You will need to take the steering wheel off to get to the switch. If you look at the picture of mine, the turn signal is on the left of the steering wheel, and after you get the wheel off, the collar will come off to expose the switch.
Before you tear your switch out, I encourage you to try something else first. I had the same problem with my 66. It turned out to be the connectors at the rear tail-lights. Try turning on the turn signal, then open up the trunk and start wiggling first one, then the other of the electrical connectors where they attach to the turn/brake housing. These fail often, and can be purchased at most parts stores. Once I replaced mine, the turn signals have given me no more problems.
