Default Torque Box/Frame Mount

I have a 67 coupe I bought last year that I am currently restoring and it is missing one of the torque boxes. Getting the torque box is not a problem but the bracket that is welded to the frame is missing too. I am unable to find this bracket in my many parts books. Is this something I'll have to make or does anyone here know if someone sells this?

Thanks in advance!

Nick

Im almost positive 67s only had one torque box on the drivers side only, mine doesn't have one either.

Torque boxes are a funny thing. The 65-66 didn't have any except the convertibles that had one on each side. In 67 they decided to added torque boxes on the drivers side only on the coupes and fastbacks. The convertibles still had 2. Then in 68 they put torque boxes on both sides of all models. Logic tells me that they should have been putting torque boxes on both sides of all models from the beginning. I added one to my 67 coupe. It is a weld in piece and there is no bracket. Fitment was an issue on mine so I hope you got it from a good company. I just never understood on the 65-66's how they tied the frame rails to the rocker panels without a torque box.

Wow... I had no idea that the 67's did not have a torque box on the passenger side (and that is exactly the side it is missing from). I'm gonna have to go over to my buddies house and look at his 67 fastback (which has not been restored yet) and see is if he is minus one torque box. He'll never believe me!

Just ordered replacement torque boxes for my 67 coupe yesterday, got them through laurel mountain mustang. Not sure if it’s made by the best but it hopefully will do. After reading this post, I realized too that I didn't pull out a right side torque box, but as I found they were available for the 67 coupe, I had to order it. Just adding that right side box has got to be a huge strengthening component for the car.

I think adding torque boxes is a good idea that is why I did mine. If you are going for bone stock original I wouldn't do it but for restomod's I think it is the only way to go. I agree it has to add strength to the cars.

So, you guys who have put in a right side torque box, did you have to make some sort of mount on the frame like the 68's had? Not that it would be a huge deal to make something, I'd just prefer to have it already to weld in.

I didn't have to make anything. Just fit the torque box and then weld it. I'm confused why you think you need a bracket. There should be a lip on the were you weld it to the frame and another lip where you weld it to the rocker. Then weld it to the floor board. I drilled holes and used through welds.

Cause my buddy, who has a 68 coupe said there is some sort of stub/mount on the frame for the torque box to attach to for support, this was before I knew about the 67's coming without the torque box. There is some sort of additional piece welded onto the right frame that the torque box attaches/welds to on his '68, I've seen it and it is why I was asking about it for my 67. Perhaps that is a difference between the 67 & 68's. ??? I don't know?

I'll just go ahead and order my torque box's and go from there.

Really? I'll have to look at a 68 to see what you mean. I think you are right though, I would just order the box and then figure it out once you get it.
