Yeah I've had it not work for me too. I still think that idea of tacking the nut to the frame and trying to back out the bolt is worth a try.

Which Mustang's Plus front and rear springs did you go with? I'm looking at the pics of your car and trying to get an idea of the height they gave you in front and back...Thanks!
