Default One-eyed Mustang

Last night the better half and I took Ol' Yeller to a restaurant, and on the way home the passenger side head light went out. So, we went on home with one eye. This morning I went to the parts store and bought a new head light, but the only one they had that would fit a 65 was a Halogen lamp. Well, I took the old one out thinking it was the bulb, and found the connector to be corroded and the wires very brittle. That was the problem, and not the lamp. I tried to clean up the contacts, but one of them just broke in my hands because the plastic surrounding it was old and brittle. So, I just clipped the wires and soldered the wires directly to the halogen lamp. It works just fine that way, but I really need to replace the receptacle. Do any of you guys know where I can get a new one? Here are a few pics of the old one, and as you can see it is cruddy and chipped.

If the recepticale at that headlight is bad, chances are the other one isn't far behind... I wouldn't just replace the receptical, I would get a while new wiring harness. Not all that expensive (the under dash one is!) and well worth the money. I replaced all the wiring harnesses in my car when I put it together and like I said, the tail light, engine feed, headlights and alternator feeds aren't priced like they are gold plated (just the underdash harness which is about $360)

After 40 plus years the things are brittle, cracked, hard as a rock and in some cases a potential fire hazard from shorts.

I'd send you a "round Tuit", but they are extremely rare. Lots of square and rectangular ones floating around but the don't work like the round ones. If you do get a hold of a "Round Tuit" let me know I could use one too. They say that once you have a "Round Tuit" you can get eveything done that you said you would if you got a round tuit.

hahaha. You can buy that receptacle at any parts store im sure. I got mine from NAPA, they are cheap too. For the time being you might as well get a new replacement one, or I could give you my new one that I never used (i ended up buying a whole new harness), they just splice into the current wiring.

Since we are talking about lights, I left work last night and cranked up the stang, and turned the lights on. I stepped out to talk to my friend. I looked at my tail lights and they were both off. so im like wtf? I opened my trunk and turned the driver side socket, and the light cut on as usual. The other side isn't working at all, no brake, or tail. I need to go check it.[:@]
