Top Broken, any advice?
I have a 2005 which I bought in Jan. of this year and has been a dream, up until today. I get home this afternoon and go to put the top up when I hear this popping noise and I notice that the passenger side part of the top will not go up, only the driver's side. At first I thought maybe the interior liner got caught, but it appears to be fine. I don't know what the problem is, nothing looks broken that I can see, but only the one side raises. The motor soundsfine too. It's sitting in the garage right now, and probably will be for the next two days as it is supposed to rain. I'm guessing Wednesday will be the earliest I can get it to the dealership. Has anyone ever had a problem like this or somewhat similar? I always follow the manual guidelines exactly when raising and lowering the top, never when it's wet, never a million times a day, etc. I think it is still under warranty, but it's cutting it close.Well this totally ruined my day and has me freaking out. This is my first Mustang and I don't want anything bad to happen to her! If anyone knows what type of problem this could be or how much it could potentially cost your input would be much appreciated. It devastated me to see that top just sit there a quarter of the way up. I'm just praying that it can be fixed and this will not be a future cause of heartache, though I can guess from now one whenever I have the top down it's always going to be in the back of my mind as to whether or not it will go back up. [:@]Thanks for listening to my little rant.
I went back a ways searching through the forum and found a few people that have 2005's that sound like they had the same exact problem I do. Something to do with the pieces of metal used in the construction of the top, or something to that effect.I just hope it can fixed in a reasonable amount of time once I take it to the dealership this weekand that if it isn't covered under warranty it will not cost a huge sum of money to repair.
Well today I found that my car is still under warranty until June 2nd. Talk about cutting it close. I have an appointment Wednesday with my local Ford dealer, getting Ford to fix this is going to be a battle I'm sure, but still being under the warranty should help out a little I am hoping. Attached is a pic.

Well, the good news is I am not liable for any of the repairs. The dealership called me back this afternoon and informed me that there wasa defective rivet that broke and that there was a TSB out for the problem. I will however need a whole new top assembly. They ordered the parts so hopefully I should get it back sometime next week. I am just breathing a sigh of relief over not having to shell out any of my own money to repair this as I am sure it would have been costly. I'm kind of surprised, the last time I was at this dealership I did not have a good experience, almost bought a mustang from them but the deal fell apart, they were rude, talking down to me, etc. but I'm thrilled with them today lol
