somehow I have two small punctures in my '06 Mustang convertible top - about 1/4 in length. would silicone be a good patch for this?

Where on the roof is the damage?

 

If it is the type of tear I think it is, there is a TSB in this, see http://www.stangnet.com/images/stori.../06-22-16.pdf. The tears are caused by a weld seam on one of the convertible bows rubbing against the inside of the fabric when the roof is in the process of retracting. Assuming your car is still under warranty, take your car to the dealer for a free new top.

 

Ok, first I don't know what TSB stands for but I'm guessing it has something like a recall?

My 08 GT vert has this rubbing thing from the mechanism. I took it to the dealer where I got it only 5 months ago and he said Ford would just put padding on the mechanism.

What should I be doing?

 

sounds like you should be padding it, i don't think Ford would jip you with a cheap fix that didn't work, other wise they would have to fix it again, (but I could be wrong. Ford is the devil to some people I know, (*cough* chevy owners *cough*) lol j/k

 

I guess your right. Padding it should help. On another post, someone said they ground down the weld where it hits the top too. There is alot of wear already through the fabric. You can see through it. It feels like a dent where it's worn through. The car is only 5 months old and I'm guessing within the 3 year warranty it will have worn all the way through. Doing the quick fix with padding will help it get through the warranty period. Then I'll wind up footing the bill for a new top. I think, since it's already damaged from a defect, they should fix it right the first time. Excuse my ignorance, but what is a TSB? I tried to click on that link but the page would not come up. I would love to know if there is some kind of recall or 'TSB' on this.
