87 top needs help raising

Just got an 87 vert and the top goes down fine with the top button. When you raise the top it does not go up unless you pull on it to help. Is this a weak motor or is it possible that its something else?

I had the same problem. The fix was to replace a leaking hydraulic pump located in the innards beside the backseat. I got mine from a junk yard. They are very pricey new ($100 plus).
