07 GT vert leak
My sisters rear window glass has a couple of spots where it has come loose from the vinyl. You can't see it with the top up, she found it by running her fingernail around the rear window. This is after the dealer had it 3 weeks, knew it leaked but never could find it, we found it in under an hour. Ford refuses to replace her top since her warranty is up even though there is a TSB for this issue. They say it isn't covered under her extended warranty. This car only has 25k miles on it and the top hasn't been down more than a dozen times. Anyone with eyes can plainly see its is a defect from the makers of the top. She was quoted a price of over $1600 to have a new top installed. The guy who owns the shop told me there is no way to seal the glass to the vinyl as it is done with some kind of microwave welding at the factory. Other than this issue the top is fine. What I'd like to know is if anyone has tried gluing the glass to the vinyl, if so what did you use and how has it held up? I did a search on adhesives that have to meet requirments for heat and cold, exposure to sun and water and Liquid Nails came up as the number one choice lol. I refuse to believe it can't be repaired, I think the dude just wanted to sell her a new top. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately TSB notices are only honored under warranty, so if you don't know about them, they for sure aren't going to tell you. They are not like recalls, where safety is an issue, but mostly cosmetic or for stuff like rattles. The stealership didn't do all of mine even after I requested them to do so. I guess they figured I was so close to the end of my warranty I wouldn't notice until the warranty expired. I got so fed up with that dealer after they kept the car and the warranty expired while they had it, that I've fixed some of the issues myself. What you may do is file a complaint online with Ford and have a regional representative look at the car. If she is just out of warranty, they may go ahead and fix the car for free or just for labor. Don't let up, request from the dealer that you want the regional representative to look at the car and keep on them about getting him there. The regional guys have the authority to get that top replaced under warranty where the dealership doesn't after the warranty expires ( sure they could juggle the numbers, but the Ford doesn't have to honor the replacement which would leave the stealership at a loss.).
Oh yeah, you can't replace the glass without replacing the top. Already asked that question and apparently its sealed inside and out and cannot be removed.
