Default Top Up/Down problems 2001

I just recently purchased a 2001 Msutang GT vert. The previous owner told me that the switch to operate the top stopped working after he had a shop install a nitrous kit for him. I read around here a little bit and figured it was a low fluid issue.

When I am in Neutral with the parking break up I hit the switch and the pump comes on but nothing happens with the top. I tried adjusting the top back some..nada. I went ahead and added some fluid to the pump, it was pretty low. But there was no change.

So cliffnotes:
Pump comes on, but nothing happens regardless of top position
-added fluid with no changes.

Do you have any suggestions?

Pulled the owners manual from a link somewhere on this site. I checked the relays/fuses. All looked good. Under the drivers side the fuse there had a line stabbed into it for the nitrous kit..I pulled the line. The fuse still fits tightly and is good.

The only thing I couldn't really tell was still good was the diode under the hood....

So I'm stumped. Should I run it awhile(like 30 seconds) then check the fluid again? There's no smell like it's leaking..but the stuff is so overpowering it'd be hard to tell my small spills from a leak somewhere.

Default How I solved same problem

simply added brake fluid .Had it work up and down helped by hand, and let it sit overnight. The brake fluid makes the seal swell up! LOts of money saved that way

Well I'm not sure if it's really a leak. I added some more fluid, but the top wouldn't go up or down anymore than it would before.

I took the car out today and manually dropped the top. Before I manually raised it I hit the switch..pump came on like normal and nothing happened. When I went to lift the top up manually it would only come up about half-way. After hitting the switch though it was like it got freed up and the top was able to come all the way down.

Does that sound like it's just SUPER low on fluid and I should just keep cycling it/adding more? Or does it sound like another problem altogether?

Default same as mine

your diagnostic are same as mine convine atf with brake fluid one third brake fluid top it off . work it manualy with some one moving the top and other person hitting the switch,You say you have to top it off so must have a leak if it is in the pistons that should take care of rebuilding the seals. Now it could be one of the tubes that would be other story
