Question Slow convertible top raising

I have a 2004 6 cyl convertible with 30000 miles on it . Yesterday I put the top down and up and it didn't sound "right". Today it was slow to go down and even slower to go back up. I have left it up for fear of getting it down but not back up. What might be the problem and where can I find troubleshooting procedures for DIY work. I don't have the funds to take it to a "dealer expert". Any help will be appreciated. I think I am going to like this forum. Thanks

Is the car running when you're moving the top? I always have my car running. Gives the motor just a little more oomph.

Also, the hydraulic fluid in the motor may be low. A slow motor is a sign of that. Sometimes the motors just plain tire out but at 30k miles, I doubt that.

Check the fluid level. I hope you're flexible. You have to be a contortionist to get to it

Where is the motor located. As you can probably tell I am not a mechanic, not very limber (age 69) but no available fund to pay someone. Thanks

The motor is underneath the flap behind the back seat. Or, if you take the rear trunk panel out you can access it there as well..
