Default I bought a rockford cordless polisher/buffer

I bought a rockford cordless polisher/buffer tonight at walmart.
It was about 35$. I didnt want to buy an expensive orbital. but once I opened it the manual said it was only used to *apply* chemicals, waxes, etc. not buff them off. DO all buffers say this or should I take it back?
Does anyone have any cheap suggestions for buffers to use on my car after a waxing? Even if I take of the wax first and just use it to buff up a shine
thanks

That will not give you any shine at all no matter what product you use. Most "Buffers" even that big 10" one you were probably looking at are ONLY good for applying wax nothing else. If you really want a polisher you are going to have to make an invetsment in a Porter Cable Random Orbital Polisher 7424 along with a proper backing plate and then some pads. Here is a great kit from the Sponosrs site.

Here is a nice little starter kit: Which i would probably suggest for you. Then you can always add and improve it with more pads and chemicasl

And here is a more advanced kit

Here, here! I bought a Porter Cable Random Orbital Polisher 7424 kit from Autogeek, and my cars have never looked better.
I am a newbie enthusiast (since buying a Stang vert last Nov.) and this thing is amazing and pretty much fool proof. I just bought a polisher, back plate and pad kit and I use all Meguiars chemicals.
Take the Wal Mart thing back (I had a 10" waxer thing-JUNK) and save your money. Use a name brand 3 step system by hand until you can buy a PC. Later.

I bought another 10" orbital from pepboys but had pretty much decided to return it too. You just confirmed it. Is thee a demand fo used Porters? Have you ever found a webpage comapring the shine fromthe pc nd the porters? I would hate to buy on then not be able to get rid of it when I upgraded. then again if money wasnt an issue I wouldnt have bought the cheepos to begin with

A Porter Cable is only like 119.00 And the only upgrade from it would be a rotary.

I agree with the other DA PC users.

The Porter Cable PC7336 can be had for $109.00 at Lowe’s. Pick up some good pads and backing plate (6") or maybe try the Edge pad system. I bought the Edge pads (3 and the adapter) for under $70.00.

The difference with the PC and the cheaper buffers (Wal-Mart, Kmart, Auto stores) is that the cheaper ones have no torque to really work the paint as well as no real speed wither. The PCs range from I think 2500rpm to 6000rpm.

As stated above, the only step up from the PC would be a true rotary. You are looking at a cost increase from $200.00 to $400.00 or more to step up into a good rotary. Although they can do it quicker than a PC dual action, they can cause severe damage to the paint without proper experience behind it. The PC DA will give the same results as a high end rotary, it just take a little longer...

Thanks for your input. My responses here were so miserable (like one reply for every ten posts), I pretty much switched to another board. I went through a big purchase, questions on baords, and return to lowes process that would have been unnecesary had i read your post above first. One thing though- the 7336 I bought at lowes was closer to 160$. Anyway I returned it out of frustration ( I couldnt figure out how to use it as a polisher, etc), and now that I understand polishers/sanders difference I am faced with going back to lowes or just ordering one online. I see no purpose in going to lowes esp. with the price I just quoted. esp since the online Kit that 06GT4RAD above posted is just ten more (thank you very much 06GT4RAD).
finally I was considering buring a rotary instead of just upgrading later and having to sell the PC, but since your comment about needing experience to run one I guess I will get the pc for now. I will wait a day for any comments to this post then go ahead and buy the kit 06GT4RAD recommended. thanks everyone.

Porter-Cable 7424 at autogeek.net
Get it in a kit with backing plate and pads as 06GT4RAD suggested.
You can't go wrong there. Later.

Back to your original post, you always use a buffer to take wax off. You always remove by hand. Your paint isn't a shoe. You don't buff it at high speed to make it shine.

Here is anopther kit from Auotgeek and although it is a bit more this is a pretty complete kit that you can really build from and add onto. I highly suggest you go and join a detail forum such as the one autogeek has or the one i have posted below. I am also posting some links to places that will help you learn how to use the PC properly.
