Default New Paint, What Next?

Hey,

I recently received a new paint job from the local Ford dealer (99 GT, Rio Red) and had two different responses on what I should do next to protect it. One said that it should cure for about 60 days and then just use carnuba wax only. The mgr said that I can do whatever I want as it is all buffed and ready to go, but that it didn't need wax for at least 6 months. After reading a bunch on here, I have a lot of choices to make about waxing/polishing/etc, but the main question is when and is there a better product to use on new paint?

Thanks for the help!

Hey, If you dont mind me asking how much where you charged the paint job. As far as what to do next, my dad had a 70 Roadrunner that he had a 7K paint job on, and he was zippin up and down the street the day he got it back. Of course you should put a wax or a polymer on it to help protect the clear coat....always. Nothing is gonna look better thn fresh paint. I would still put the good stuff on

what i was told when i last got a paintjob was, since the car isnt being baked like they do at the factory (when its just the frame and body without the interior/mechanical) it is fine to wax as soon as its done baking. but since they cant do that with a loaded up car, you should wait at least a month before waxing. i was told if you wax it before it cures all the way it can bubble due to not being able to breathe.

Thanks for the info. I think it was around 5k for it, but it was courtesy of someone being dumb and sideswiping the car. In the end, it didn't cost me anything except time. There are a few bugs and other junk that got on it on the way back from the shop so I know it must be washed. I think I will get some good mild wash and at least give it a wash to get the junk off and leave it at that. To be safe, wax after 60 days. Do you think Simple Green will be better to get the bugs off at this stage than any harsher bug removal chemical?

DO NOT use Simple Green on your paint or your wheels. It is corrosive. If you have a hard time getting bugs off buy one of these (bug sponge) and use it when you wash the vehicle. Also make sure you only use a car soap no Dawn of other kitchen soap.
