Default Washing a Convertible

I just bought a 03 mustang cobra. I dont know anything about cleaning or protecting the top of a convertible. It is a cloth top NOT vinyle.
What do i use to protect the canopy on my convertible??? I called GM Auto Auposltry and the told me to use Lemon Pledge. This sounded odd. Any advice?

I'd check with Ford, just to be safe. I don't use anything special ie auto soap and water on my 96 stang. Some of the chemicals out there will stain tops, Pledge would not be my first choice or even last choice. JMO
