Default Tires

Hey guys new to the forum so I hope you guys can help me out. I currently have 18 X 9 inch rims. I just would like to know what is the biggest tire I can fit on there without it causing problems. My car isn't dropped either so its stock height. Hope that helps. I currently have 245/45/18 on there and am not happy with the look nor the feel of the ride. My friend has a set of 285/50/18 and Im thinking that is too big. Any idea on how I could make the ride better (smoother) and not rocky. Also where could I find the right lower control arm for a 2001 Mustang V6. Searched everywhere just can't seem to find one. I bought the car and it is having a veering problem and les schawb tires told me the right lower control arm was slightly bent. Hopefully you guys can help me, sorry if I asked for a lot. Thanks in advance =D
