Default Vinegar safe on paint?

My roomate does cheap detailing work for extra cash. Instead of using a claybar or something similar, he says he uses vinegar/water in a spray bottle before he washes and waxes a car. Is that safe on the paint?

Safe? Yes. Effective for what he wants to accomplish? No. Vinegar works to remove hard water spots since it dissolves the deposits. It is not a substitute for clay. Your friend is nothing more than a detailing hack.
