Default How to paint

Ok. I bought some bigger side scoops for my stang and they need to be painted. Heres my question, if i get some paint from ford that matches my color, can i get a spray that hooks up to the air compressor and spray the scoops? Will it come out good or will it look bubbely? Any reccomendations.

Use a touch up gun, and sand and prim real well. I dont know why they would bubble, just dont use an aresol can on them.

What i mean by bubble is that when you take a look at rebuilt cars, from a side profile angle, they look bubbly. I dont know. These scoops are already painted, so i can just spray over them right, just strip the wax off, correct? When you say touch up gun, i can use those $20 guns from home depot?

Do you mean the orange peel? This is usually the result of improper prepping or excessive moisture in the air when the paint was sprayed. You will need to remove the wax, use a paint cleaning product designed to do this, but I am not sure what would not harm your new scoops. If you try to sand before you remove the wax and contaminents, you will just spread it around. As far as the gun, Home Depot sells guns that will work just fine, but if you want them to be perfect, you may want to have a spare paint cannister for the gun and not use the same cannister for paint and clear coat. Since they are already painted, you should be able to paint over them, if you sand them lightly and keep them smooth, but you dont want them to be shiney glossy when you paint. A main gun normally uses a 1.3 for paint and a 1.4 for clear, but no more than you are painting, you can use the same tip for both. I would recommend calling a paint store to ask a professional what tip to use if you are not sure. I have never had a problem getting help when calling. Good luck, and post some pics when you done.

Oh, and BTW, a friend of mine that is in the business told me that Tide laundry soap will work well for taking wax off. I would try that first before using a paint thinner, I am afraid of what that may do to the exising surfce.

Thanks a lot for the info! I will definetly post some before and after pics up. I talked to a friend who owns a body shop and he said that he can give me the paint already mixed, with the color and clear coat, is he right or wrong, can you mix them?

I am sure you can mix them, but unless you are using a single stage paint, why would you want to? If you put a couple of coats of clear on them, you will have a nice, deep wet look. You can go one step further and put 3 coats of clear on, wet sanding between coats, and you will have that nice mirror effect. But you will have to guage the look to match your existing paint. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it all depends on the look you want.
