Default Window Tint Questions

I'm looking to tint my windows, because black leather in the summer sun isn't too much fun. I have a few questions and I want some opinions.
--First off can someone recommend good brands of window tint, because on my last car I had 5% all around, and I did a nice job, but after 3 years, the tint started to turn purplish when you looked out from the interior. I ended up redoing the front windows again with a different brand that I can't remember, but they stayed black and didn't fade for the rest of the time I owned the car. Anyone tell me some good and/or bad tint brands

--Secondly I'm going to be tinting the rear window, but since it is a bit curved do you have to use the roll of tint and apply it in pieces, or can you use one bid piece of tint? I've never tinted a curved window before, my last car was an 89 bronoc full size.

Thanks for the help in advance.

The reason it turned purple is because you used the stuff you buy at the car store right? If you want to get a good tint that wont turn purple and will be the best brand out there your going to need to take it to a tint shop and have them do it. I know its cheeper to do it yourself, but at a tint shop they use the best of the best tint which I doubt you will be able to get at your local car parts store.
If you do decided to do it yourself you should do the back in one piece if you can, it will look a lot better.

Window tint turns purple from using the wrong cleaners, IE Windex...

You need to use straight water or buy a bottle of window tint safe glass cleaner.

Now that I've read your PM & read your thread, I'll offer help.

You're in luck! The rear window can be tinted as 1 piece AND you don't have to heat shrink (suckssssssss). It's pretty straight forward, especially if you tinted your front windows and they came out nice... If you have the Mach 460 system, you can remove your speaker covers to give you more room to work with. Also, using just a credit card to work out bubbles and fingers.

As you probably already know, it is absolutely ESSENTIAL that your window and surrounding area's be ABSOLUTELY clean and dust free. Window tint is hard to handle and if it brushes up against something, count on it picking up dirt and lint - leaving a nasty line in your finished product.

You might experience problems with fingers appearing in your tint, if you have a heat gun, you LIGHTLY pass the heat gun over the annoying finger, just LONG enough that you see the tint react to the heat. It'll be less than half a second, quickly work out the finger and proceed to the next problem area. Unfortunetly, being 'good' at tinting usually comes from trial and error, so you may go through a roll or two before you get it right!!

I'm sure you already know about trimming a piece down on the outside of the window and such...

I've tinted quite a few windows before, but they have always been on straight windows, my previous car was a full size bronco and they had lots of glass, but that was pretty easy to take care of and I'm moderately good at it. But when I tinted I never used a heat gun, it was always done with just the glue from the tint. i've also never used windex or cleaners, but I have used soapy water, because I was told and later shown how much easier that makes the tint application expecially when getting out fingerprints and bubbles. Is the soap what caused the tint to turn purple? Just wondering.
Another tip that you may or may not know: I also found that clear finger nail polish works wonders on the edges of the windows if they start to come loose, but you have to be really careul not to trap any dirt in there, and you also have to catch it before it gets to be too big of an area. I'm going to be tinting the next nice weekend we get up here, so I'll let you know how it turns out.

thanks for you help
